Spouse for Hire

Have you checked out the side bar "Military Spouse Employer of the Day"?  I know you've wanted to, I've been there myself.  Staring at the little space wondering what was just behind the click of a button.

Well, if you aren't prepared to be amazed, don't go behind that door!  I just did and I'm somewhat befuddled and amazed.  I had no idea there were so many companies listed on this site.  What a great resource!  In the last half hour (which is how long it took me just to scroll down through the entire list of companies), I have changed future career paths at least 12 times!

I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up.  It's such an huge question mark in my life.  Right now I am so absorbed in Sew Much Comfort, that I can't even conceive of doing anything else.  But I just spent a great half hour meandering through the possibilities!

If you are at that glorious point in your life when you actually have the time to pursue a career - either you have no children, you have been blessed with great day care for the children, or the children are at an age where you are not concerned if your kids are home alone (and neither is the local law enforcement agency!) - then this is definitely something to check out.  These companies are all ready, willing, waiting and wanting to hire military spouses.  And, as we've talked about before, getting hired as a military spouse is sometimes tricky at best!  See Career Seeking Military Spouse from September's archives for more empathy on the job search!  But these are companies that have actually asked Military.com to include them on the list of companies who like to hire military spouses!

I've often thought, when I go back to work, I will be so much better prepared to handle almost anything the business world can throw at me.  Trust me, no amount of time sitting calmly in a campus library, could have ever prepared me for three boys, military husband, Cancer/TriCare of one son, and working with a non-profit organization supporting wounded heroes!!!!

I know some of you are saying, "The grass is always greener...".  But I've been on both sides of the proverbial fence.  Seriously, I have no idea who is married/divorced/separated from/sleeping with their ex/or waiting for their spouse to wake up from a coma in any of the daytime soaps and I have never even seen a bon bon!  I have done the days where I just let everything go so my husband appreciates what I do on a daily basis.  I've felt under appreciated and under-qualified  for the pressures/scheduling issues/cooking requirements/budgeting tasks/school issues/psychological battles of being a stay-at-home mom.

But, as I scanned the list of companies and job requirements, I've never felt more empowered.  Being not only a mom, but particularly, a military mom, has truly given me skills, insights and an absolutely insane ability to juggle, manage and succeed that I never had before I traveled this career path!  So, whether you are looking for a job or a career - check out that little side bar to the right.  It's okay - you'll be pleasantly amazed.  But you may want to get a hot chocolate and a cinnamon crunch bagel from Panera's before you start.

Who knows where it could lead???
