What does being a military child mean on Fathers Day?

My children continue to amaze me.  For I do believe in my heart, that they have sacrificed more than I had ever imagined.

And on the eve of this 2007 Fathers Day, I have spent a lot of time thinking about them.

We spent today making stepping stones for Daddy for the garden.  They are lovely.  Very distinct styles.

The Collective told Daddy they missed him, and then filled him on on his Fathers Day gifts.  They have drawn pictures of Daddy.  They draw him so tall and so big, and I am so pleased they see him as such strong figure.

But as with all things that revolve around 3 and 5 year old, there have been questions.

"When is he coming home?"

When we visit, they wonder why we meet at the Cracker Barrel. Most of the time, it is because we have no idea where we will be staying, and I certainly have not learned my way around Georgia in 3 visits in 10 years.

Daddy is simply away at military training.  A six month course, but he is away none the less.

But there have been questions.  The kind of questions that are painful to hear.  Like "why does Daddy sleep here sometimes?"  Ouch.....

So we have taken Daddy's training and tried to use it as a great example of Daddy's love of learning and education.  I have told them, that learning does not ever stop.  Education is important, even for Mommy and Daddy.

And, I think of what these children do know.

Our military children are educated.  They learn a lot of valuable lessons VERY early.
