When the movie Hitman came out, I remember thinking it looked like the stupidest movie ever. But now that my husband’s almost been gone three months, and I’ve been deprived of testosterone, all of a sudden the movie seemed like a great idea. A really great idea. I watched it last night, and…sigh…I was right. Muscles, 100-yard stares, men kicking butt and taking names. Delightful.
I remember when Butterfly Wife wrote a post about her testosterone void, asking, "So what’s a girl to do?" I answered that Rocky III and Tombstone helped me out the last time. Hitman helped last night. And I’m saving 300 for a rainy day, when I really, really need it.
So let’s hear it, ladies. What movies help you through the deployments?

It's not exactly a movie. It's an Australian series called "McLeod's Daughters" that I got hooked on last deployment. The women are strong and kick butt. The men are tall and good-looking. The accents don't hurt, either.
Band of Brothers. The 13th Warrior. Inspector Lynley detective series.
Hamish MacBeth.
Monarch of The Glen for giggles, accents and a very good looking main character (for the first 5 seasons, anyway..)
Monarch… sigh…. Lynley.. oh yeah…

What I really enjoyed the last little bit of deployment — only because that's when I finally got them — was the Lord of the Rings trilogy. But then I like scruffy men like Aragorn. :D
Hey, I watch the same things you do during deployments. :)
What I can't watch – anything with romance in it. It reminds me what I'm NOT getting. Which just makes me more cranky.
i don't usually watch tv or movies alone because for some reason they make me sad.
except for team america: world police. that is definitely my deployment movie. although i DO get a little jealous that even puppets can get it on and i can't. :)
Typically, I don't like action movies/TV shows, especially military ones. However, for some reason, while hubby was deployed I found myself watching "The Unit" on TV and now I'm hooked. I'm actually almost embarrassed to be watching it. Seeing them all tough and rugged one minute and then caring and sweet the next. Yep, I'm hooked. When my hubby first came home, I would record the shows and then secretly watch them when he wasn't home because I didn't want him to know how into this show I had become. Now, if he watches it with me, he will point out any military inconsistancies in the story and I tell him to stop, he's destroying my fantasy guys.
When he was gone, I was stuck on action, sci-fi, and thrillers. It was then that I really got into the CSI shows, Cold Case, Without a Trace, etc. Since that isn't my life, I can disappear into it, and not think for an hour or so.
I agree with airforcewife, I couldn't do the romance movies either. I think the Notebook was out by then, and everyone was swearing by this movie. Not me! I didn't want to hear it, see it, read it, or have anything to do with it. As of yet, I still haven't bothered with that movie.
Hmmm….issues there?!
TROY!!! Brad Pitt's butt…need I say more!
when he was gone I would go back to classic black and white monster movies and creature features. I also have a huge thing foe Dr. Who and when I need to cheer up I watch that. I couldn't do any romance shows too sad.
I love Dr. Who!!!!
WHICH Dr. Who? my personal favourite (he was a friend of my parents) was John Pertwee… but oh this new one is just yummmmm. the one right before (played Norfolk in Elizabeth) mmmmmmmmmmmmm….

SFW, I liked Monarch, too, at least the earlier seasons.
I also find myself drawn to comedies, including stand-up concerts. Love Eddie Izzard.
omg bonnie, i watched notebook 2 days after hubs deployed (for the 3rd time) DONT DO IT!!! BAAAD IDEA
shows i love to watch: Ghost Hunters on Sci Fi!! w00t! love those guys (sad but true: i own every SEASON on DVD..and the book…*sigh*)
also like: dealiest catch, mythbusters, ice road truckers, man vs wild, dirty jobs, lots of stuff on the history channel & hgtv.
DizzyLizzie,
Ghost Hunters is my ultimate guilty pleasure…:)
I giggle when they scare the crap out of themselves but I find the shows interesting too.
Law, the new Dr. Who is rather yummy, isn't he?
When dh was deployed to Bosnia, I watched Behind Enemy Lines, being that I too have anticipatory grief, that was not the best movie to watch. LOL, I guess I watch movies that are his favorites, they remind me of him.
DizzyLizzie,
I love Ghost Hunters also! I too own all the seasons and the book.
OOOH more GH fans! Awesome!
every season premire we do pizza & root beer floats at my house. after that everyone just kinda shows up on wed nights LOL
i have to say GHI is somewhat dissappointing. Without Jason and Grant around these guys are getting too excited over lots of nothing.
but it is hilarious watching them freak themselves out!
i hope poor steve-o never has to come around this area. we have spiders GALORE ;)
If I watch a romance I get upset. I end up yelling "bet she doesn't get left for a year at a time" or "bet they get to wake up next to each other everyday". My tv doesn't understand why I yell at it.
I spent my last deployment watching 24, baby! Like, 120 hours of fantastic entertainment…
