Publisher seeks cartoons about life as a military dad

Abbeville Press, publisher of the "The New Father" series of books, is sponsoring a contest to gather cartoons for publication in the forthcoming book The Military Father: A Hands-On Guide for the Deployed Dad, by Armin Brott.

The publishers are looking for cartoons that illustrate how the military experience affects dads (mostly of newborns through age nine, but of pre-teens and teens as well) and dads-to-be in their relationships with their families. For those cartoons selected by Abbeville Press for publication, winners will receive $150 and full credit in the book.

More information, including eligibility and style guidelines, can be found at here. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2008.

Military Family Month Contests for Kids

Each November, Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) celebrates Military Family month to demonstrate the nation's support and commitment to families of military personnel. ASYMCA launched its annual art and essay contests, sponsored by GEICO Direct and Lockheed Martin, for children of active duty and retired military personnel and Department of Defense civilians. First and second place winners will receive a U.S. Savings bond. To enter either contest, go to http://www.asymca.org/.
