Ringing in the New Year: Ahhhh – Peace and Quiet

We completed the planes, trains and automobiles dance three days ago, and as soon as we got home, we had two rounds of visitors. I'm pooped, and I have no desire to mingle with other people tonight, toot horns, wear funny hats, drink champagne (don't like it) or be around people who are drinking too much champagne.

Last night, my husband called and asked what I wanted to do for New Year's Eve. I told him I'd tell him when he got home because it was going to sound corny over the phone.

My master plan involved lobster tails, a nice bottle of wine and dancing – just not at some over-priced, over-crowded restaurant or club. So, I splurged and bought lobster tails (yum), a nice bottle of wine and a scrumptious dessert. I'm thinking a viewing of It's a Wonderful Life might be in order, too, since we didn't get a chance to watch it over Christmas. We're going to eat by candlelight on our patio, dance in our own home (finally putting those ballroom dancing lessons to good use) and then collapse in our own bed at precisely 12:05 a.m.. A perfect evening for me, even if it screams O-L-D.

What are your plans? Whatever you do, have fun and be safe. Oh, and toot a horn for me. My tootin' days appear to be over….

What a perfect-sounding evening. I'll be away from my husband this year (and New Year's is "our" holiday), but we're postponing Christmas, so maybe we can postpone New Year's, too, and do something relaxed and home-y like your plans…a fantastic dinner and one another's company. Perfect.
    Enjoy your new year.

I must be O-L-D, too, because that sounds like such a fun evening!
We feel the same way – we're skipping the parties and celebrating just the two of us.

  3. Well we are having our Sunday night church home group over tonight. Just games, good food and fellowship.
We haven't had a New Year's Eve party since 2000. We have done the just family no party thing.
Have fun Andi-your evening sounds lovely!! ;)

  6. A nice evening at home – and DH bought an insanely expensive bottle of french bubbly – so we'll spend the evening together, preparing for the next long year apart.
Have a wonderful safe, happy, prosperous and peaceful new years celebration.

I have no desire to stay up all night long anymore. The new year will still be here in the morning. My kids said they are staying up so I told them to keep it quiet. I overheard people at the PX talking about their drinking plans tonight and I would just rather sleep. If that makes me old then so be it.

I went to a friend's house and the kids played all night while we played Phase 10. We kept saying we needed a nap at 9pm or we would not make it. LOL We did and I collapsed in bed by 1 am. I can not stand going out and being around crowds of people any more.
