30 Minutes

It's amazing how short 30 minutes is.

When my husband calls from Afghanistan, I
always feel like we've barely scratched the surface of two or three
topics before he has to get off the phone. I feel like I've just
gotten started and it's time to stop.

It makes me wonder how
much I run my mouth to him when he's home. If 30 minutes only covers
part of two topics, then I reckon I must do an awful lot of talking
when he lives here…

I can't wait until I get more than 30 minutes with him.

About Sarah

Sarah has been an Army wife for only eight years so far, but what an eight years it's been: 5 duty stations, 4 branches of the Army, 3 deployments, 2 years of failed attempts to start a family, and 1 baby born a week after a nine-month deployment.

Sarah spends most of her time these days involved with various baby playgroups on post. She also spends so much of her time in sweatsuits that her husband says she belongs in a Wes Anderson movie. Sarah's hobbies include making babyfood and trying to squeeze in a bit of knitting in the evenings. Notable projects include a stuffed Chinook and a four-fingered glove for Joan D'Arc's husband.

at the beginning of the war, my hubs was one of the first waves to go. we got 2 ten minute phone calls a week. thats it. Usually, after 9 minutes an operator would come on the line and tell us we had 1 minute remaining. Sometimes they didnt and without warning the call was dropped.
    so, things have gotten better.

Soo true. I get a call maybe once a month. So different from being side by side.

Ha, yep! Our family is usually very loved by Murphy (as in, the law), so there's usually TONS of stuff I need to go over by phone, so we'll always start off with the short & sweet stuff, then I ask if he's ready & speed-talk through all the stuff I need to cover. Generally I can get it all in in about 10-15min, then I stop talking & he gets to answer everything & add his own. Then if we've got time to spare, we'll slow down & actually converse ;-) That way, just in case, all the important stuff is covered.
