As military spouses, we tend to move around quite abit and after a while pick up tips along the way as far as the organization and packing of our household goods. I'm no stranger to moving and really have no one but myself to blame for this. So, what happens when a certain someonedoesn'tlabel boxes properly or forgets wherecertain things that might be needed soon afterarriving into a new placemight be at?
Certain things such as.. I don't know, let's say, the screws and bolts to all the tables for instance?
We simply get creative. Some see "tat box", I see "temporary dining table".

Love it! :)
We learned to dissemble items and the re-screw the nuts and bolts onto the legs. If that was not possible than a plastic zip lock bag attached to item with duct tape. Everything we would need first were marked on the boxes with big bold RED letters BOX 01 of 10, OPEN FIRST! Never forget to put fresh underwear and socks in carry on luggage because you never know where the other luggage my end up. So many other things come to mind but I don't want to be a post hog.
Heh heh… Good to see someone else utilises a trunk that doubles as a coffee table!
Hey, I have a trunk as a coffee table, too!
I hate those random parts. Especially the ones that hold the door in the refrigerator. Or the beds together. Aauugghh!
We lost a wire that looped with another wire for the middle support of our bed-frame while it was in storage (while we were overseas), rendering the bed even more useless than it already was. *sigh*
we immediately put the screws in a ziplock bag and duct tape them to the underside of the table so all you see is a lump of gray tape
I'm not usually the one who sets up the computers and entertainment system but we were moving before my dh returned from deployment. I had tags on both ends of every cord describing exactly where they plugged in and then I also used the ever popular duct tape method to attach the bag of cords to the equipment. I still haven't figured out a good way to get tape residue off though!!
Dizzylizzie – I did the exact same thing to everything *except* the coffee tables. We ended up having to go to Lowes and bringing a part of one of the tables to get the right size screws. Everything has been officially unpacked.. and they were nowhere to be found, heh.
When DH and I were first married we had very little furniture. Our first coffee table was made of milk crates on the 4 corners and a big piece of flatboard wood on top! It worked great until his parents finally gave us a "real" coffee table (their old one – they got a new one). The cool thing is, we still have that coffee table after 12 years and many moves!
As for bed parts… ours is currently "rigged" so it doesn't fall apart. We will be getting rid of it when we move next summer (finally!).
