"But I Have A Home!"

FacebookXPinterestEmailEmailEmailShare

We have four children, and all were born while their father has been in the military. We move - it's what we do. We have tried to teach our kids that home is where our family is living, without squelching any attachment they might have to old homes.

As time goes on, this concept is getting harder. Adding to the trouble is the fact that we lived in the same place for 3 1/2 years, were gone for less than a year, and came back for another two years. When you are 8, that is nearly your whole life. Even at 12, 11, and 9, it is a big chunk of your memory.

I don't know why it surprises me when my kids insist that home is somewhere other than where we are living. I was actually startled when one of the kids said, "I have a home, and I know its zip code!" in a defiant voice. This move has been particularly hard, and they are always talking about wanting to go home, and when will we get to go home.

So, I'm curious. What do your kids think of as home? What is the funniest place that your kids might call home?
