Protecting MilFams From Businesses

If you could create any rule to protect military members and families from shady businesses, what would it be?

Holly Petraeus, wife of soon-to-be CIA head Gen. David Petraeus, is in charge of a new office looking to answer just that question. As part of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) she is in charge of reaching out to servicemembers and military families to make sure they aren’t being taken advantage of by unfair financing or business practices.

We caught up with her at Fort Campbell yesterday where she was holding a series of listening sessions to hear servicemembers’ concerns. She said that one of the things she likes most about this position is that the CFPB has the authority to make new rules and regulations. They way when she hears about something that just isn’t right, she can make sure it never happens again. You can read more about her visit here.

Have you run across any truly questionable businesses or practices that are targeting vulnerable servicemembers or their families? Have you noticed a practice that really needs to be changed or outlawed? Tell us about it in our comment section.
