New Companies Join Spouse Employment Program

Two dozen new companies joined the Military Spouse Employment Partnership this week during a ceremony at the Association of the United States Army conference here in D.C.

The companies joined about 70 others in a pledge to give military spouses a special look for job openings as well as train supervisors to be flexible and understanding about the military lifestyle while allowing for job transferability during military moves when possible.

From the Army story:

"They support military spouses in their employment and career efforts by offering jobs that are portable," said Robert L. Gordon III, deputy assistant secretary of Defense for military community and family policy. "That means the companies provide support and commitment that when a military spouse has to move, their employment opportunities will continue with that company."

We reported the roll-out of the MSEP program in June, when it officially changed from just servicing Army spouses to including spouses from all services. With a 26 percent unemployment rate among milspouses, any help in getting work is an important step in the right direction.

You can read more details about the program here.
