Worthy Cause: Home Depot Foundation

My husband recently forwarded me an email about the Home Depot Foundation. We're big fans of Home Depot's discount program for active duty military and veterans, but I wasn't aware of their non-profit organization. Since I'm continually on the lookout for charities with an emphasis on military families or rare diseases, I was delighted to look further into this particular cause.

The Home Depot Foundation has paired with respected charities such as The Mission Continues and Habitat for Humanity in their quest to provide safe, affordable housing for wounded and underprivileged veterans and other deserving individuals. The Home Depot Foundation works with the American Red Cross as well in providing disaster relief.

I was excited to discover that Home Depot's commitment to veterans is even more evident in their charitable work. The Home Depot Foundation has pledged $30 million over the next three years to veteran and military organizations. One of their recent grants will allow the Fisher House Foundation to repair, update and retrofit existing Fisher House locations.

In partnership with The Mission Continues, The Home Depot Foundation recently launched the Celebration of Service. Their goal? Between September 11 and Veteran's Day, complete over 200 service projects geared toward improving the lives of veterans and their families.

Are you interested in helping? Accept The Mission Continues Challenge and Take 10, Give 10 and Tell 10. Are you a 3 Doors Down fan? Purchase their Time of My Life CD from homedepot.com during the Celebration of Service and $1 of your purchase will go toward The Home Depot Foundation's veterans' housing initiatives.

If you or a veteran you know is currently facing housing challenges, The Home Depot Foundation has compiled a list of resources to assist veterans in need.
