When stores should put up holiday decorations is debated every year.  A conversation as predictable as the holiday season itself. What about Black Friday store hours? How early is too early to open up the doors?

Target’s employees are angry that their doors will open at 12 a.m. on 25 November. One employee took their grievance to the web .  They now have public support to the tune of nearly 90,000 people urging the company to change their decision.

The Target employee who began the protest, Anthony Hardwick, states:

A full holiday with family is not just for the elite of this nation -- all Americans should be able to break bread with loved ones and get a good night's rest on Thanksgiving!" Hardwick said in the statement. "Join me in calling for Target retail stores to push back their original opening time of 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

Their employees would receive holiday pay for coming in at 11 p.m. Thanksgiving night.

Target will be joined by Kohl’s, Macy’s and Best Buy in opening just hours after Thanksgiving leftovers are put up.  Wal-mart, Toys R’ Us and Gap are leaving the table mid-meal and opening earlier than that!  AAFES will open their doors at 4 a.m. on 25 November.  Target did respond to the protest insisting that their customer base wants to be able to do their shopping after their holiday day is over.

I’m not a Black Friday shopper for many reasons but I do find this viral protest very interesting, especially the customer support.

What do you think? Are you affected as an employee of one of these retailers? Will earlier hours make your Black Friday better than in the past?
