Does Military Count As “Great American Worker?”

FacebookXPinterestEmailEmailEmailShare

We gotta win this contest.  Every year, Brawny Industrial Wipers salutes the efforts of the unsung heroes of American industry.

Usually the grand prize of an F150 Ford truck is awarded to a plant manager, a floor supervisor, an assembly line operator, a truck driver, a mechanic, or one of those other blue collar folks that make a difference in this great country of ours.

This year, Brawny’s PR guy contacted us to suggest that we get military members to participate in this contest.

Why didn’t I think of that?  We have plenty of mechanics and truck drivers and food service operators in the military.  We don’t often recognize their service. Without them, our military would not eat or steam or fly or otherwise get the job done. Those men and women would look adorable in a new truck.

But I really want one of us to win because according to the rules the contestants must submit a short essay.   The rules say:

We are looking for stories about the things that inspire American workers to get the job done safely and correctly the first time around so they have personal time to relax, recharge, and ‘be there’ for their families and communities.

That’s what so many military folks I know do all the time. Those individuals take in for granted that what they do is just part of the job—no big deal.

But it is a big deal.  Figuring out how to motivate other people on the job is always a puzzle.  So that is one thing. Figuring out how to put that into words is another.

It is something we all have to be able to do when transitioning out of the service.  So having a military person winning this contest might demonstrate how much the skills learned in the military apply to civilian life.

I would love for you to enter the contest.  I would also love to get a look at your entry. Nominations for the contest will be accepted until July 7, 2013 and winners will be announced in October. Candidates can nominate themselves online at www.brawnyindustrialGAW.com and find more contest details at https://www.brawnyindustrialgaw.com/EnterEmail.
