Why You Should Come to Military.com's Spouse Experience

When we decided to launch Military.com’s live Spouse Experience event at bases across the country, we had our own reasons. We wanted to get out and see the bright, shining faces of our readers. We wanted a chance to meet the people who faithfully leave comments almost every day (I’m looking at you, Mel and Spouse2000). We wanted to get out there, see what’s going on at military bases around the country and help spouses have some fun in the process.

But it isn’t just about us. We know that you need a break from the daily grind to eat, laugh, win prizes and get some great ideas for tackling this military life in the process.

That’s why we’re so excited to be bringing Military.com’s Spouse Experience to Marine Corps Base Quantico in Northern Virginia May 7. You’ll have two chances to attend since we are hosting both a morning event at 10 a.m. and an evening event at 5 p.m.

But why should you bother to come to see us live and in the flesh? Here are five reasons to attend Spouse Experience Quantico. I can’t wait to meet you there!

You need an extra friend. Back before I married into the military I had a problem. I had too many friends. I was living in Washington, D.C., working my tail end off, deeply involved in a fabulous church, holding an extra job at a coffee house and hosting a dessert group at my home. All of the busy came with piles of great people for me to be friends with.

I didn’t know how lucky I was.

When I joined my husband at our first duty station I had a total of one friend: my husband. He’s a nice guy and everything, but his interest in pedicure dates was and still remains low. So I had to go and find some new friends ... a process I've had to repeat three times in the last five years.

Friend dating is hard work, and usually not that fun either. At SpouseBuzz we know that. So our Military.com Spouse Experience aims to take some of the sting out of the process by running our exclusive activity to help you launch some forever friends the easy way.

You like good ideas. If you like bad ideas, this is definitely not the event for you. At Spouse Experience we only aim for good ideas. You’ll hear some about relationships and some about money. And since our Quantico event corresponds with Military Spouse Appreciation day May 9, we’re doing a special section about what it means to be a military spouse.

You hate boring PowerPoint presentations. Bad news, folks. If boring PowerPoint presentations are your thing, you may want to skip this event. But if you’d rather laugh, chat, interact, meet new friends, eat free food and win great prizes, you know where to find us!

You hate traffic. Why is that a reason to come to Spouse Experience Quantico? Because if you come to the morning event from the D.C. area, you’ll be traveling against traffic. All those other guys are going to be sitting for hours on the highway. But not you! You’ll be going the other direction, on your way to hang out with us. Sometimes as I drive against traffic I laugh with evil glee which inevitably turns into bad traffic karma later. Try not to do that. Instead, keep your eyes on the road, turn up some fun music, poise your military ID to display to the gate guard, and point that car towards Quantico, Va.

You love wine. In a Spouse Experience first we’re pairing a wine tasting with our Quantico evening event. What’s more fun than a little wine with new friends? I rest my case.
