Secrets You Can Use To Start Your Own Business

How do you take the talents and skills that you have and turn them into real money? That’s the question radio personality and social media marketer Kristen Robinson poses to the ten successful military women in business at her free virtual summit starting June 3 (full disclosure—I’m one of those women). The job you hate.

Kristen knows what it is like to be a military spouse working at a job you hate. She moved to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to be with her husband. “I couldn’t get a job in Jackson. I worked at a Sylvan Learning Center. I didn’t want to be a teacher. I was miserable.”

One day she came home from work and her husband took one look at her and said, “What’s wrong, Wife?”

“I literally threw a temper tantrum on the carpet,” Kristen told me in a recent phone interview. “I came to him and said I’m married to you and I can’t do what I want to do. I’m really starting to resent you.”

Kristen’s husband was no fool. He reminded her that she always wanted her own business. They looked at their finances and decided it was time for her to start her own business.

“Everything I made for the next two years went into the business,” Kristen said. It meant that their date night only took place when Heroz on base was having their Wing Night and the couple could order $5 worth of wings.

Spouses want help starting their businesses.

Sacrifice and hard work paid off. Kristen now runs a successful social media marketing business from their new duty station in Hawaii. Spouses there frequently asked her to help them with their businesses. Kristen knew there had to be more spouses out there who could also use a little help.

At her first virtual summit last December, more than 200 spouses showed up for the event. “They didn’t go away after the event. They kept hanging out on Twitter asking questions.”

Military Women In Business Summit Online

On June 3, 4, and 5, Kristen is hosting the virtual Military Women in Business Summit. Each day offers two or three hours of content. It is all online so you can attend from wherever you are. All the sessions are available for free for 24 hours. If you miss the event completely, recordings are available for purchase.

“It is like a conference, but you can attend from home in your pajamas,” said Kristen. “Everything is audio. We spouses are at work, at home with our kids, we need the flexibility. Just click the play button on your phone so you can listen from wherever you are.

Kristen and some of the entrepreneurs will be available to answer questions via the hashtag #mwibsummit.
