What's cooler than being featured on an Instagram feed with 4.5 million followers? Not much.

A series of military spouses and their stories were highlighted over the last week on First Lady Michelle Obama's instagram account as part of the Joining Forces celebration.

Joining Forces, a White House push to support veterans and military families, hit its fifth anniversary last week. The White House used the opportunity to announce new pledges from major companies, including Amazon.com, to hire veterans and military spouses. Officials also attended a USO 75th anniversary birthday party at Joint Base Andrews with a ton of military members and families.

And the First Lady took the opportunity to highlight the stories of regular old military spouses (or, rather, as regular as military spouses ever are) on her Instagram feed, which has over 4.5 million followers.

Among those highlighted were two friends to SpouseBuzz, Adrianna Domingos-Lupher, who runs NextGen MilSpouse, and Amanda Crowe, who directs the U.S. Chamber foundation's In Gear Career and authors Military.com's "Dear Career" bi-monthly column.

Here's what was shared on them:

“Three of my four grandparents served in WWII and I loved all their stories, but Grandma Dorothy's stories of being part of the Women’s Reserve fascinated me most. The idea of a woman serving in her time was revolutionary. I knew I wanted to do something amazing with my life so I followed in her footsteps and served in the Navy Reserve.” –Amanda Crowe, a @USNavy veteran and spouse, shares her #JoiningForces story.

"I’ll never forget the day I called my mother sobbing, saying I should never have gone to college, since due to the unpredictable nature of being married to a military member, I’d never be able to piece together any sort of career or professional identity. Despite a set plan to become a teacher, overseas orders early in my military marriage showed me teaching wasn’t the “guaranteed” career path everyone promised. After melting down entirely, my mother, a military spouse of 27 years, calmly asked me, “Now why do you think you’d ever allow yourself to settle for less than what you truly want out of life?” That conversation, military spouse to military spouse, became my a-ha moment. After working in a few roles and blogging on the side, I realized that the military spouse community had a powerful message to share, but there was no place yet for our voice. So I created NextGen MilSpouse and the military spouse blogger network, MSB New Media. I've called these ventures a happy accident, but looking back now I can’t imagine life any other way. Momma is always right." –Adrianna Domingos-Lupher shares her #JoiningForces story.

Thank you to the White House for featuring these two special military spouses, as well as the stories of several other veterans, spouses, caregivers and military kids. We don't always agree with everything the White House does, but we always like publicity for military spouses when they are presented as the strong, courageous and amazing people we know them to be.
